Sussex, NB – May 28, 2008
– Quiet rhythm and elegance were the watchwords during the first Dressage
New Brunswick competition of the season held last week-end at the Princess
Louise Park how Centre.
For two full days
spectators were treated to demonstrations of dressage at all levels from
beginner up to the first FEI (Federation Equestre Internationale) level,
Prix St. Georges. There were Junior, Adult Amateur and Open level
competitors as well.
Both horse and rider are
judged as they execute specific movements in a pattern, not unlike
compulsory figures in figure skating. The level of difficulty increases from
the entry level ‘Walk Trot’ class up to the more advanced levels. Judge
Lynda Southam was generous in awarding points for well executed movements
but equally quick to withhold them for performances that weren’t up to
par. Nevertheless, her comments to each rider were both encouraging and
supportive. Full results for all classes and championship divisions are
available on the Dressage New Brunswick website at www.dressagenb.com
Coming up next week-end –
the mighty draft horses take centre stage.
